Rasmus Hojlund sends ‘awkward’ message to Kobbie Mainoo after England’s draw with Denmark

Ramus Hojlund sent a message to his Manchester United teammate Kobbie Mainoo following Denmark’s 1-1 draw with Euro 2024 favourites England on Thursday.

England laboured to a 1-1 draw with Denmark in their second match of Euro 2024 in Germany, with fans baffled at the seemingly non-existent tactics.

It was a very similar story to the opening match against Serbia, with Gareth Southgate’s side taking an early and deserved lead but then appearing to actively refuse to play any sort of attacking football.

After considerable Danish pressure, they finally got what they deserved with an outrageous strike from Morten Hjulmand, whose long-range effort gave Jordan Pickford no chance before the break.

The second half was no better from an England point of view, with a couple of half chances for Watkins and Saka but all in all Denmark probably looked the more threatening side.

Despite looking dangerous in attack, one Denmark player who never really got going was Rasmus Hojlund, who showed glimpses of skill but never really got into the game.

The youngster’s performance bared a lot of resemblance to his outings for Manchester United this season, with not a single one of Denmark’s 16 efforts on goal coming from Hojlund.

Man United’s sole representation during the game was from Denmark through Hojlund and Christian Eriksen, with Kobbie Mainoo not getting on the pitch despite England’s midfield issues.

Following the game, Hojlund took to Instagram to send a message to his clubmate.

He wrote: ” At least it won’t get awkward with Kobbie next training”

Mainoo was brought on by Southgate against Serbia for the final moments of the match but appears to be second choice to Conor Gallagher when it comes to options off the bench.

The 19-year-old made his England debut against Brazil during the last international break and has featured heavily for Southgate since then but has been snubbed to this point in Germany.
